In the last six months I could have achieved great things. I did this instead.

That's quite an achievement, Gorby! I would never finish such dio in only six months... Fantastic work!
Thanks for the nice comments (and the likes) mates. Glad you like it. 🙂
Thanks for the "amount of pics"! They are needed to see the full amount of interesting details of this excellent diorama off the beaten track.
This is brilliant job mate 👍 Really great to see another of your builds.
On the other hand I feel bit odd to see ze lazy Germans 😄 I'd say such poses would better fit a Soviet, Polish or any other Warsaw Pact army 😄 (perhaps with ze notable East German exception) 😉
Thanks very much Lukasz!
Personally I think humans are the same - always happy to stand around with their hands in their pockets if the opportunity arises...just that the Germans seem to be able to hide the urge better. 😉
That's one ambitious build! I love the damage Thor has done to that sod, nice and deep. Thanks for the pics and the prose, always entertaining and joy to read.
And one more thing: deadlines are for chums, not for properly retired, now full-time modelers 😋
Thanks you very much Pietro & Alec. 🙂
Oooooh wouldn't it be nice to be modelling full time. It's all go here in Gorbyland, dogs to walk and naps to take. I don't know how I manage to fit it all in. 😉
Incidentally Alec, my next project is one of my scratch-build oddities.
Oh yes! I am looking forward to that as well. Be sure to leave a nudge in this thread please.
I've made a note to let you know Alec. 👍
Doesn't seem fair on others to stick this at the top of the newsfeed again unnecessarily.
Thanks Mick.
Your comment has reminded me that I wanted to add some black and photos to the album. 🙂
Sorry Oliver I missed your comment. Quite right, I did enjoy this project (a damn sight more than any DIY task I've had to do - but needs must.) 😉
B/W shoots look just fantastic, one more proof that it is a great dio my friend
Thanks very much Spanjaard. I enjoyed having a little play around with the photos. 👍
Achieved Great Things?! This is your Dr's note.
Please excuse Gorby from other achievements due to complications brought on by a fantastic build.
Dr. G. Time, Plastitrician
Seriously. Nice job👏
Wow, lots of quality time and effort has gone into this lovely dio. Well done
😄 😄 😄
That made me laugh Jonathon. I suppose the title is factually inaccurate as I wouldn't know where to start trying to achieve great things. I'll stick to mangling plastic instead. 😉
Thanks for your comments Jonathon and Mr James. 👍
Thanks very much Chris & David. 🙂
Mangling the plastic is the easy bit, it's the colouring in afterwards I struggle with, but apparently it isn't the done thing to leave them in 50 shades of grey....now there's an Idea for a dio. 😉
Woah ! Gorby you are true master ! Just fantastic ! Very creative photo shooting here.
Looks great but railway modelling is another genre. Not only does it have to look good but it has to work as well.
John, did you used PS or LR mask to apply the backdrop hill scenery? looks very convincing.
Thanks Anthony. I used GIMP as I use Linux on my PC and Photoshop doesn't like Linux (neither does my wallet 🙂 )
Incidentally it's Mark not John. 👍
No problem Anthony. Always good to try new techniques - keeps your brain ticking over. 🙂
Yeh, I agree with the above superlatives. Apparently hold a clipboard, walk with purpose (albeit slowly) and no one will ask you " And what do you do?" Stood me well for forty years.
Back in the early 80's I used to work for a company which found that for many years one of the employees had been spending all day just walking around the site – with a clipboard. I often used to see him walk by but as you say, no one questioned him. It turns out that even he couldn't remember what he was originally employed to do! 😄
Scalemates feed waited a long time before showing me this. Eventually it did and I'm out of words. Except: Beautiful
Superb diorama! You must have had incredible motivation to finish it. Six months is a long time, but it's short considering the amount of work you put in. Well done, beautiful result! 👍👏👏
Thanks Jean-Daniel. Not sure about incredible motivation, it's more that I didn't realise how much work it would take.
Incidentally, due to a house move I tried to sell this dio on Ebay. Considering the time effort and expense I thought £250 was a reasonable price, the downside is they would have to collect it as this would be impossible to post. No one was interested and I wasn't going to sell it for any less. 🙁
You know, it's always difficult to sell model kits. When you see the equipment on your diorama, it's a really low price, but those who don't do model building don't realize the time and patience it takes to make a diorama like that. I sold my 1/12 scale Porsche 935 to a Swiss man living in America for 250 Swiss francs. That's also a modest price, and I was surprised it arrived undamaged. But he was happy, and so was I, and that's what matters. Best regards, see you soon.
I can't complain really as I sold most of my aircraft models and made over a thousand pounds! 🙂
This was the first one I was selling, but I need to make some space. My display case is starting to get full.
Superb diorama. A lot of work has gone into this, well done great result !
I've just seen this for the first time and as usual it's hard to know where to look first; the little details are so engaging! My favourite is the chap who's been ejected from the signal box; I don't know what he did, but he looks very apologetic! 🤣
Thanks Dexi. I suspect he's just bored or wondering why his bum has been glued to the handrail. 🙂
Probably not as big as you think it is Miocapitano because it's 1/72. The dio base is 720mm long (28") 280mm (11") wide.
Hi Gorby 👋 how you doing? You got anything on the drawing board at the minute, or you have a bit of break. been following your min Marvel's over the last few years....been very interesting 😃👍
Thanks Mr D, we moved house in November and the new place is my current 1/1 scale project. Personally I prefer 1/72….or 1/76, or 1/48 or 1/35…… just anything other than 1/1. 🙁
I see, l had a move myself a year ago...... Takes time to get everything settled. I had bit of a break over the summer, was working on my Vespa l got in the spring 🌼 🌱 then riding ect.
I started back by finishing my su47 .....and was all fingers n thumbs for a while 🤣.
Good luck with everything hope all your builds survived the move. .. especially the invacar .... really like that one 😃👍👍
Ooooooo this is great! Love the scene. I totally get what you mean by "non-action" scenes, there is plenty of story here. Very impressive project to take on and very well executed. Especially the 1/72 scale dust 😃 Congrats Gorby on a really good build 👌
Thanks very much Tim and Alec. 🙂
Glad you like the 1/72 scale dust Tim because after four years there is plenty more of it. 😄
Great Gorby 👍 I've purchased an Airfix loco to build, Apparently it has a lot of moving parts and terrible instructions 🤣.
It's good thing that H.Boss did a gun kit 👍 I bet your missing your building board a bit now Gorby ? A break will replenish you for future Marvel's 😃👍.
I'm going to finish my Corsair & Spit and have bit of slow down for summer.
The grass is very good on this one 👏 be the envy of any model rail enthusiast 🤣👍
Actually I was disappointed how the grass turned out on this one – my own fault as I rushed it. 😳
The enforced modelling break may be even longer than I first envisioned as there are problems sorting out access to the loft room (future modelling room). I'm really missing it. 🙁
Look forward to your loco build. 👍
Thanks Gorby 👍 those little metal 3D puzzles are good fun to do with minimal space and tools , l built a Galion it's in my general/ Mixed Album . Just cutters n tweezers, small space.
a.aliexpress.com/_EwFxXKs
Good luck with everything 👍
Thanks for the suggestion Mr D. I'll consider those metal kits. I do have something else (also not plastic) which I want to try, but it's still not scratching my plastic itch.
Well done. Dio's can be very addicting I know the feeling. I have only done 2 and very time consuming.
I agree with everyone, that is a nice dio, looks like you must have spent a lot of time on it.
Album info
This retirement business isn't all about sitting around modelling and listening to music you know.
Ooooh! Apparently it is. (Hate mail to the usual address.) 🙂
I built this as part of a group build on another site. Mind you, I think I heard the deadline zoom past a few months back. You know how it is, "Yes, I can definitely do that in three months"….and more bits keep getting added. At the end of the second month I confidently predicted each month that I'd got about one more months work to do. It took me six months, spread over most of this year and I'm just pleased the bloody thing is done. Now I can get on and do something less pointless….obviously that's never going to happen is it. Fortunately only 1/72 scale dust has settled on it in that time and rather than go to the effort of dusting it, I'm calling it weathering.
I would have loved to make the base wider, but I have history with making dio's too big to fit into my storage cupboard and I was determined that this will be an exception. Stop making big dio's you plonker!
I tend to prefer non-action dioramas. Perhaps it's something to do with being a non-action person. Given half a chance, men will stand around with their hands in their pockets hoping that no one will give them any work to do. I know the feeling well. 🙂
As his advice was a great help in painting the figures, I'm dedicating this build to my departed friend Paul/Phoenix54.
Sorry about the amount of pics, I got a bit carried away. 🙂
