But the weathering is truly amazing...next time try PZL-23 "Karas" from "ZTS Plastyk"... their Caudron CR714 "Cyclone" is equally interesting

Thanks very much mates. I'm glad you like my mini Spitfart drama. To be honest, it was Starfix, so it got what was coming to it. 😄

Only just stumbled upon this as someone on ScaleMates has just bought this kit. Wonderful pics and creative writing Gorby, thanks. In my teens I butchered an Airfix L1011 so my mate and I simulated an airline disaster with glue, matches and a cine camera. Nothing close to your standard.

Hahaha, I laughed way too hard. This brings back memories. One of the first kits I tried was something like this but in 1:72. Exact same type of plastic and equally excellent moulding. I had to apply so much putty to make the wings touch the fuselage. I gave up on it and decided to paint it bright pink for my 5 yo daughter. She kind of liked it and kept asking for a pink tank for a while. But I had learned my lesson and never again got a kit worthy of that treatment.
1  6 April, 22:11
Sits
Come on @Rens, do the tank! Or is she a bit too old now?

In the captions Gorby mentioned early Airfix and they were pretty bad but back in the 70s it was Revell we all thought was worse (horrible rivets and nothing fit). Was it just us?

My eyes, even with bleach and countless hours trying to unsee this, will never recover. You did make it look good though.

Thanks mates, I'm glad you like it. 🙂
Rens: I vote pink tank as well 😄 . This is by far the worst kit I have built but I actually enjoyed it. It does you good to occasionally have a bit of fun and not give a moneys how it turns out. 🙂
Sits: In the 70's I only ever built two Revell kits. I was an Airfix fan-boy and that is the only thing I could compare it to, although looking at it again I should have just described it as a bag of shite in kit form rather than risk being sued by Airfix.
Thanks Historybuff.
I forgot to say that believe it or not, this build won a prize!!!! 😮
The group build it was built for was sponsored by Black Mike Models who gave me a Bf109 kit for shooting down a Spitfart.

Thanks for all the 'likes' as well mates. 👍

Ok, ok. I'll give the pink tank some thought. 😄

That is too funny Gorby, I would have binned it as soon as I opened the box and stumbled upon the poor thing.
The scenes you made afterwards does justify the effort you put in to it, great fun!!
It makes me think of the old days when I was a kid, I used to shoot at my build kits with an air rifle, or blow them up with fireworks.

Jan: I knew what I was letting myself in for and what I was going to do to it when I bought the kit. I thought it was time for the Spit to have the pee taken out of it little knowing that Starfix had already ridiculed it far more than I ever could. 🙂

I have to admit this has reminded me that my friend and I once set fire to a scalextric TR7 and ran it round the track for as long as possible. When it stopped moving my friend picked the car up and threw it out of my bedroom window. Oh, my dad laughed; he was so happy... 😜

Strange looking Decals ? Are the different to regular ones ?
Just out of interest ? Gorby.....l used the Decals out of a kit from.1974 recently on my locomotive........they were a little thick but worked 🤔 50+ years old. Was surprised with outcome but couldn't find replacement. ! Like your steamer with the Brunel hat 👍
1  20 April, 11:35
gorby Auteur
Yes the method of applying the decals is different. You have to cut them out, soak them and them lay them on the surface of the model still attached to the paper – which is why the decals are printed backwards/mirror image. Bloody stupid way of applying decals. It's like Starfix thought, "We made the crappest kit possible. How can we make the decals to the same standard". 😄
5  20 April, 14:02
Mr D
🤣 that reminds me of those fake tattoos that used to come in the 10p goody bags as a kid 😄.
Funny....and l thought the Mini-hobby kits had problems??
1  20 April, 17:37
Spanjaard
c'mon gorby, think about the obvious advantages of that decal system, like not being able to know where the f* you are placing them, and probably the impossibility of change possitions once placed. maybe they wanted to give you the chance to shine by being able to place them correctly against all odds 😄 😄
4  20 April, 19:03
Sits
@Mr D I had forgotten those tattoos! To paraphrase Alexei Sayle from a similar era: "You felt like a million dollars but looked like a right ****."

(Especially if smoking a fake cigarette).

Album info

Rudolf gets riveted.

When it comes to a single type group build of Britain's national aircraft* there's always going to be someone who lets the side down. I can proudly state that 'someone', is yours truly. I know you wouldn't expect anything less of me. 🙂
As a special extra added bonus (probably best not get too excited at this point) this is the link for both an in depth in box review AND a completely unbiased 😉 build review for all you Starfix fans out there who are dying to add this to their stash. Come on…. There must be someone…. Anyone? 🙁

Sorry it's taken me a while to add the review and build report to Scalemates, I know you're all desperate to see this wonder kit built. Good things come to those that wait. So you've obviously you've not waited long enough.
In some ways I feel sorry for it. The poor thing has probably spent decades being rejected time after time, probably after having to spend years in stashes being picked on and ridiculed by the big kits. So I intend to make a reasonable job with this.
A few years ago I considered buying a Starfix Spit and ploughing all my modelling skill into super detail it to make it as accurate as possible. I'm not that man any more. In fact I'm not sure I'd even be on speaking terms with that man. The likelihood is that I'd cross the road to avoid that man and get a restraining order so that man couldn't come within 500 yards of me.
The kit was be built out of the box as building it in a lead-lined sealed box doesn't seem to be a viable option. I've checked.
Finally after wandering in the wilderness for forty years (or so) it has finally got it's time in the spotlight.
I won't go though this kit step by step. I'm just not that cruel. I'll try to stick to the highlights lowlights.

* I don't remember being asked to take part in that vote. Why is it always the bloody Spitfire? I'd have voted Hurricane. Although if I'm honest, it would mainly to be annoying.
