The Douglas/Northrop 8A-2 in the Argentine Military Aviation

In 1935, the Army Military Aviation, by Law 12,254, acquired a batch of 30 examples of the then Northrop A-17 in service with the USAAC.

The 30 units for Argentina are manufactured by Douglas as Model 8A-2, they arrive in the country unarmed and are assembled at the Military Aviation Factory, in Córdoba, between 1938 and 1939.
During their service these devices are known in force as N-8-A2

The first 6 units are referred to the Military Aviation School. Initially the 8A-2s operated from the El Palomar Air Base and later they operated from the El Plumerillo Air Base, in Mendoza. In 1949 the 17 examples in service were transferred to Observation Group 1 of the II Air Brigade of Paraná, Entre Ríos.

In 1952 the 8 survivors were sent to the Air Bombing Regiment No. 3, in El Plumerillo until their discharge in 1953, at which time they were replaced by the I.Ae-24 Calquin, some examples continued in service until 1958 as trainers in the Palomar.
