Do you whether your rally cars? I know they can look great weathered, but my philosophy is that my models are in the condition as if I was the lucky owner or custodian. They are clean but not "bulled" up, nobody likes to work on dirty cars.

Very nice result! Looks like the decals are a PITA to get on though. I am with George, I also like my builds to be new and clean. But I would also like to try my hand at building a kit in barnfind condition somewhere in the future.

The decals were indeed difficult. They seemed good quality but they are big and need to go over a lot of contours of the body work. I'm sure someone with more skill an patience could have done a much better job. But I had fun and am happy enough with the result.

I've never tied weathering before. I love the pristine showroom look, but part of me would like to model some of the never give up never surrender moment from rallying e.g.

However I think I'm too scared that I would just end up messing up the kit.

I don't know what you tried with the decals but lots of softener, a blow dryer and lots of swabs help to Shrinky Dink ( did everyone have Shrinky Dinks as a kid? ) the decals around contours and such. And sometimes you have to slice a creased up decal along the crease to flatten it out. Fun stuff ( not really )!

Thanks for the advice, I did use a bunch of softener and swabs. I've not tried a blow dryer before. I think I could have got it nicer if I'd just spent more time on it but I decide to draw a line under it whilst I was still having fun and before I risked messing it up.

(I have not heard of Shrinky Dinks before 😄)
