Porsche 911 GT3 - Ardenne Bleue Rally 2006

 

Learning from my mistakes from the SEAT Córdoba kit, the first thing I checked was if the body shell fit over the roll cage... It did not. 

Cutting off the rear bumper and replacing it with the one from the conversion kit went well with just a little filler. The exhaust tips well less easy. The ones from the conversion kit were way too big. I don't there was enough space on the bumper to fit them even if I enlarged the hole. So I had a dig in my bag of bits and found these which I think were from a 240Z that fit quite nicely. 

After a bit of fettling the roll cage was looking good. 

The body shell was fitting nicely now. 

 

 

 

 

 

I'm not sure this is the right exhaust system for the rally car but it looks good so I kept it. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The black parts are supposed to be carbon fibre. I thought I had some carbon fibre decals but I didn't. For me the fun of the build is more important than the exact accuracy so I just painted it rather than putting the build on hold to get some carbon fibre decals. 

At this point realised I forgot to put the photo etched brake discs on so I popped off the wheels and added them. 

I don't usually bother with primer but given how brightly coloured the plastic was and the different colour of the resin parts I thought it wise to use primer. 

 

 

 

Fortunately I realised that the roll cage would not fit over seats before I glued the second one. 

I did however need to make some adjustments to the roll cage to get it to fit round the spare tyre. 

 

I've not had great success with masking before but given the long straight line I gave it another go. 

The masking worked out well. There was a little sliver bleeding through in a couple of places but easily fixed. 

Unfortunately there was a bit of a gap between the body and front bumper that needed to be filled. 

 

 

 

I was concerned that all the tiny lines would be a pain to apply but they weren't too bad. They are all a bit oversized so you have a great margin for error. 

There were so many decals but I think I did a decent job. 

The wing took a little sanding to get a decent looking angle on it. 

Finished, unfortunately I picked this up when I thought the clear coat was dry but it was not. That trashed a couple of the decals. hopefully it is not too noticeable. 

 

 

 

Another little annoyance at the end. I dropped one of the bonnet pins and it went under the the engine cover never to be seen again. So there is one missing.
