David Jung@SCM Data suggestions
Are "trains" generally supposed to be "Functional Model Kits" or "Display Models"? Neither seems correct.

There are also a fair number of entries that are tagged for RWM, but I highly doubt would normally be considered train stuff and were tagged because they happened to have a common train scale. (If I still had a hobby shop, they'd be in the scale models area and not with the trains.)

typical trains on Railwaymates are "Functional models" (if it is designed to move, it is intended to move and typically it moves = functional models)

That said, there are some trains which are not functional and have a pure "display" function.
eg.'
Grubenbahnlok Deutz GZ30B (Artitec 387394, 1:87)

And some trains have a "display" function, but need to be built. Here "Static model kit" is correct. Because it is a typical RWM scale and fits the eco system, we show it both on RWM and SCM
BR 18 505 & Tender 2'3' T 38 (Revell 02167, 1:87)

02167

This kit, while a train is not shown on RWM as it is not a typical scale (and it does not move)

100% Railwaymates, but a "Display model"

That said, I just bulk moved a 100-ish items from display to functional models

Here's an example search of what looks wonky to me in RWM:

yes indeed, I removed them from RWM right now. (while we can debate this for hours 🙂
if in X years a mate is super active on RWM and uses those items in his layout we can move them back over.

Cool. Probably anything that's an aircraft or ship is suspect. I've seen some pretty amazing train layouts that included sail/motor boats but not big ships. Vehicles are probably mixed use, especially civilian.

And for sure, I'd defer to someone deep into railroad who wants something different.

I assume you don't want the wood track trains like Brio that my 4-year-old grandsons play with. 🙂

Brio is unfortunately not welcome 🙂
