Heroes from the sea

 

 

During our holiday in the UK we booked a boat trip in Seahouses to the Farne Islands. Because we were too early we looked around and saw the lifeboat station. We visited it and saw the lifeboat and I took pictures of it. In the shop I saw an Airfix model and decided to build it as a souvenir. After two weeks I had finished the model except for the decals and searched the net to see if there were decals for the Seahouses boat. Oh lucky me: Airfix just issued a decal sheet with names and numbers of all the Shannon class boats. So here is my model version of it 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Because I took quite a few pictures of the real one, I saw the model differed a bit. The railings were not metal, but black steel wires with places where they could be opened for access. So I decided to add the gates as well and painted the railings black with silver turnbuckles. 

The real boat had two more aerials on the radar-mast, which I added as well. 

On the real lifeboat there was a whit cable hanging over the railing. No idea what it was used for, but I added it as well. The problem was how to imitate a cable hanging loose over the railing. But with some matt varnish, the result looks alright
