Dapol Deltic DP1
April 19, 2024Parts all cleaned, flash removed and acrylic primed.
April 19, 2024This is a fairly small kit but the moulds are old and there’s some flash to clean up.
April 20, 2024A bit of minor warping caused difficulty of fit around the cab. Nothing that a bit of superglue and some tape can’t fix. Another problem is a missing vent grill that I replaced with one scratch built from plasticard.
April 21, 2024Working on the installation of driver’s cabs. I need more clamps to make this kit work so waiting to fit the other cab while the 3D Printer produces one ?
April 21, 2024The driver’s cabs are fairly basic in this kit but I think they will look ok with limited view through the windows.
April 21, 2024No sooner said than done. Parts held in place by a 3D printed clamp while the glue cures.
April 21, 2024All subassemblies completed and the wheels painted. Ready for painting, glazing and final assembly apart from some sanding where I had to re-fill a seam.
April 25, 2024Two coats of Phoenix Precision enamel prototype Deltic Blue. This paint is really good albeit a tad pricey. It goes on so smoothly. This is airbrushed.
April 25, 2024Not looking forward to painting the cream lines ☹️
April 27, 2024About 75% of the way through painting and detailing. I am giving the roof fairly heavy weathering and light on the sides. There will be dust and grime pigment on the bogies. The lining is not great but the cost of Fox Transfers decals was prohibitive. Cream lining on the ends still to do.
April 29, 2024More weathering done using Ammo paints and powders over a satin clearcoat. Trying to blend the colours. Decals (all two of them) using Vallejo decal fix and Micro Softener. A final fixer clear coat to do tomorrow, remove the masking and that will be it for this one.
April 30, 2024Done
April 30, 2024Completed. Now for a motorised one. Things learned: put the glazing in before assembly and use contact adhesive. Warm any warped part and dry fit. Don’t overdo the weathering; this is a bit heavy. Find a better way of doing the lining, preferably with an airbrush. I think probably paint the lining and mask that with thin masking before spraying the main body.
