After perusing the available manual this Apache looks to be a lot better than the Takom one. I tried to build one but that canopy is a total mess to get it in place. I cracked the canopy because of fitting issues (and impatience with the kit) and it's the only kit I have trashed so far. Meng seems to have a much better idea about how to fix a canopy to the airframe. Here's hoping it'll arrive this month!

Same here. The first step in the Takom instructions is a mess to with part Q20 glued to the cockpit but does not tell us that the same part is required to attach it to part Q29 and in turn the cable needs to run through the locating holes on part Q20.

For the canopy, the fit on part Q7 to Q29 to is not a problem but if one tries to fit parts Q21 and Q8 to part Q29 to simulate a closed canopy will find that both parts do not exactly fit and that part Q8 is slightly shorter as it leaves a bit of gap at the bottom.

After the canopy screwups, I thought: Okay, I'm going to ignore the canopy problems (equal to dropping standards which I absolutely dislike) and see whether the rest of the helicopter build is going to give any problems. It turns out there are more problems such as the locating pin to fit part D14 is too big and part F1 seems a little too long if one wants the M230 chain cannon to be level.

Sadly I have found the canopy to not be the only issue. I've had trouble getting the engine cowls to fit into the engine front for which they were designed. There's a single locating plug so I don't see how I could have messed it up.. regardless, I'll see what the meng kit is like and might buy that even if I get the takom one over the finish line.

Regarding the Meng kit, it is completely doable as I am able to finish without any problems. The only issue I find is the lack of seat belts (then again, the Takom kit does not provide instructions on how to use those despite having the seat belts) which I compensated by using the pilots from Redoak (not a perfect fit as those are designed for the Takom kit but nonetheless good enough).

Even though I thrashed the Takom, I kept its PE, so now I have seat belts for the Meng. 🙂 Even though I ordered it through my local hobby shop, it still hasn't arrived yet. It's stuck in a container somewhere.

Any reason for picking 1:35? A diorama with vehicles?

Never made any dioramas. 1:35 seemed like a proper size for helicopters since they will be sharing shelf space with 1:35 tanks. I really like the fact the blades of the Meng (and Takom, granted) can be folded back to save display space.
